Beholding the Deliverer

“This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭18:30‬ ‭ESV‬‬

There are seasons in my life when circumstances seem to threaten my faith. You know those times when every single thing feels as if it’s falling apart? Recently the events happening to me haven’t seemed to line up with what I see in God’s word or what I see in the lives of other believers. It’s been one difficult thing after another. Destruction, chaos and frustration.

David was a man after God’s own heart and he had many times like these.  Throughout the Psalms he would lament then praise, lament then praise. David had real life enemies and real life problems. This verse has helped to remind me that God’s promises prove true. It’s found in a whole chapter about God delivering David.

God’s way is perfect. His character and nature stand above my struggles and He is my wraparound shield when I hide in Him. It was critical for me to stop looking at my present reality and instead look at my perfect God. I eventually chose to take my eyes off of my circumstances and behold my deliverer. And, wow!, my perspective has shifted from one of despair to one of hopeful expectancy. He does what He says and He is who He declares Himself to be!
