Speaking the Word

Have you ever put a label on yourself? Things like “I’m a mess” or “I am an awful teacher.” Those labels are prison walls that we put up around ourselves and they keep us from living in freedom. I realized the other day that I do it all the time. Without even realizing it, I’m hard on myself and mean to myself. These lies sink deep into our very being until they become the only way we see ourselves.

Holy Spirit showed me how easy it actually is to knock down those prison walls and walk in freedom. He told me to start put my name in a verse and speak it out loud over myself.

For example,

I anointed you, Mary Elizabeth, set my seal of ownership on you, and put my Spirit in your heart as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

or

“Since you are in Christ, Mary Elizabeth, I have made you an heir of all my promises.” Galatians 3:29

When I did that, all the lies I had spoken over myself fell away. I have to say them repeatedly and remind myself of who I am and who God is to me. Sometimes those walls will try to come back up, but when that happens, I shut it down quickly with the Sword of the Spirit.

Speak life over your life and God will bless you. He is our Father who loves us and calls us His own. Believe it and live it.
